Estate sale Friday, things that came home with me!

Estate sale haul.... I came home with a modest handful of things. I actually used an old leather briefcase to hold my items, my hand was cramping:)

The LIFE magazines I got from that pile. A gentleman at the register insisted he saw the JFK issue first & meant to grab it. AFTER I had paid for it & had my hand on the door to exit the house.
Sir, LOL. A'int gonna happen, this magazine is moving right along with me.
Australian feminist author Germaine Greer

Neil Armstrong Off to the Moon issue

Martin Luther King assassination
Remembering JFK

All the LIFE magazines are in pristine condition. Except this Jayne Mansfield one! This must have been his favorite:)
Wedding cake topper! Their wedding was in 1957 & I snatched this up,  yeah it's old,  several of the flowers & leaves have fallen off since I've gotten it home, dusty & discolored.  But this couple stayed together till death do us part & this thing needs to be in the Smithsonian as far as I'm concerned. We can all learn a lesson from this thing!

I grabbed a ziploc bag full of paintbrushes. I do crafts here & there & I figured I could get some use out of these.

There were some French drawing pencils in the bag..

The paintbrushes are super neat! This is a Grumbacher sable bristle watercolor brush made in Bavaria

Made in China? I think not.

L. REUSCHE & CO.

Since when does the US Army make paintbrushes? Or "did" they I should say.
Winsor & Newton

Oxblood leather briefcase

Could not resist these vintage Christmas sweaters.

Cute nautical gold chain belt

Remember what I was saying about putting tape price tags on antique items? Rip off the tape & off comes the lovely design on the box. Bummer. Half the tree is gone now.
Got a strand of Renown Christmas tree lights. Love the kitschy style box.

Antique stethoscope

Hands down my neatest find of the day. Its a Rieger Bowles stethoscope.  Manufactured by G P Pilling & Son in Philadelphia. Looked up the patent # & it was filed in 1927.

Estate sale Friday!

Driving home from dropping off my son at school I see a white sign..  ESTATE SALE. Yay for me!
It has been over 6 months since I have been to one & I always find such nifty things at any of them. I love how that generation of people care for the things that they had, doesn't matter how tacky, ugly (mustard floral bed linens, green & yellow tupperware, or avocado bathroom towels) they kept what they had & somehow most of it still looks nearly new.
Pretty yellow Frankoma mug. This color of yellow is acceptable!

Antique Similac can

Trying to see if this old baby doll is valuable, she was in really good condition. This picture was my Google reference for when I returned to the car. :) Hey you gotta use your resources. Ignore all the older folk glaring at you wondering why your nose is buried in your iPhone.

Neat date stamper! It was HEAVY. Loved how all the original paperwork/manual is still with it.

We will call this the room of clocks. The noise coming from all 57 of them is hard to put into words.

New in box Gilbert Microscope toy!

Again, manual intact, this was almost brand new in the box.

Love me some vintage Christmas ornaments. Don't love how people put tape price tags on the front face of something antique.

Neat Airline antique radio!

He had a pile of safe doors. Just the doors, Lots of military collectables

Collectors edition Crayola tin.

Who doesn't need a Bavarian beer mug

Pile of Life magazines. You know I sifted through all of these. I have a specific one I am hunting... it wasn't there.

Piles of cigar boxes.

Silvertone nearly new record player. Neat!!

Favorite Rachael Ray recipe...EVER

My favorite Rachael Ray recipe, I think this is the 7th time making this since I have discovered it. My hubby dislikes onions, so this dish is only for myself & my least picky (most favorite) child. That was a joke. Love them all. But I don't like cooking several meals for the super finicky eater. This is when PB&J's come in handy.
Here is the link to the real version, I have tweaked mine a little & it still tastes amazing.

Fresh spinach! Loaded with nutrition. Thankful something is healthy in this dish:)

Wash, season & butterfly some chicken breasts. Sprinkle with S,P, & basil.

Simply sauté all ingredients, add spinach it wilts & cooks down to more than half its size. Let it cool until warm & add feta crumbles. That way your cheese doesn't melt if you add it too early.

Sprinkle with breadcrumbs, I was out of panko ones so some regular Italian seasoned
ones had to do. I was in a hurry with preparation so I just put a few pats of butter on top. Bake until chicken is done & there ya go.

Finished product! The flavors are so good together.

I just happened to be using some brand new Rachael Ray stoneware my Grandma got me for Christmas. Already love the set of "bubble & brown" bright yellow bakeware. Funny part is...see my yellow Fiestaware plate? They match. Hey hey! Love it when things just accidentally happen. OR maybe the last time my sweet Grandma came over, she took a mental note that I had some yellow Fiestaware & that inspired my Christmas gift.
